Visualizing Marathon 2010 Results Announced

Congratulations to the two MFA Interaction Design teams who participated in the Visualizing Marathon 2010, and especially SVA Team #1 for taking an Honorable Mention. Twenty teams from eight different design schools were challenged to visualize the impact of humanity’s footprint on Spaceship Earth at the inaugural 24-hour student data visualization competition. Team #1’s Pushing the Boundaries visualization was able to “use great interaction design to effectively communicate the impact of humans on our Earth.”

Pushing the Boundaries by David Bellona, Clint Beharry, Colleen Miller, Erin Moore, and Tina Ye juxtaposes eight global indicators of planetary health (climate change, ocean acidification, ozone depletion, nitrogen cycle, phosphorous cycle, global fresh water use, land system change, biodiversity loss) against total world population data and extrapolated over time. For the 2010 Visualizing Marathon competition.
