Meet the 19 students who will make up the Class of 2018. Over the next few days, we’ll highlight three incoming students at a time. Today: Kinjal Shah, Mischa Fierer, and Ning Xu.
Kinjal is a designer and traveler born in Ahmedabad, India. She received her Bachelor's degree in Interior Design from CEPT University.
During her undergraduate studies, she took a course that involved human behavior analysis and systems thinking, which nudged her towards the field of interaction design, and ultimately helped her realize that her true passion lies in tailoring the experience of users.
At SVA, she hopes to explore this newfound passion and looks forward to using technology and research to create things that impact society in a positive manner. She is also eager to meet, interact with, and be inspired by people from different backgrounds.
In her free time, Kinjal loves to run, hike, kayak, try different cuisines, play board games, and watch animated movies.
Mischa is a designer and meditation student from California.
While studying at the University of Chicago, he helped start CaptainU, a popular sports recruiting app. He lead engineering there for two years before changing his focus to design. Interaction design combines his interests in coding, communication design, typography, writing, and psychology.
After graduating, Mischa joined AngelList, a platform for startups. He lead design for the company's investing and recruiting products, which help startups like Uber raise money and hire.
Mischa spends his nights making art projects with code. Most recently, he created an introduction to p5.js (a creative coding framework), inspired by Swiss designer Armin Hofmann.
Ning Xu is a User Experience Designer, Design Strategist, and passionate World Traveler. Born in Baoji, ShaanXi China, she came to the United States for high school and later earned a Bachelor degree of communications focused on human relations and behaviors at the University of Minnesota, Twin-Cities.
In Ning's senior year, she took an adventure, backpacking in 17 countries across five continents in 10 months, which allowed her to push herself outside the comfort zone and explore different cultures around the globe. In her last semester, she went to Columbia University for an exchange program, where she developed a strong passion for the conjunction of technology and design, and soon enough, user experience design became her dream job.
Currently Ning is an UX Design intern at Designity, a startup dedicated to creating freelance opportunities for designers, students, and employers. Her goal is always to embed and explore technology with design to make people’s lives easier.
In her free time, Ning is an advanced skier and serial entrepreneur.
