Summary
The rising prevalence of ubiquitous technology is changing our everyday experiences and relationship to place. Public space design has traditionally been the domain of architects and urban planners, but with the growth of mobile, embedded, wearable, and networked technology, interaction designers are critical to crafting these location- aware experiences.
This class will examine the role of the designer in public space projects, emerging trends and technologies, and ways to design for social context and meaning. Guest speakers will provide perspectives on key issues. A majority of the class will be dedicated to reviewing proposed concepts for student projects based on an assignment. Students will work in teams to ideate, create experience journeys, and present final concepts to a guest panel on the last day of class.
