Roshel Chawla

1. Tell us about yourself

I am a visual designer starting my journey as an Interaction Designer. I believe in crafting thoughtful and meaningful solutions that impact the daily lives of people. My experiences ranges from working with new-age startups to Indian rural and handicraft communities. With a background in Communication Design, my interest in design comes from a combination of helping people and creating things.

I am fascinated with the intricacies of community living. By studying Interaction Design, I aim to tackle complex problems and transform them into intuitive, accessible, and easy-to-use designs for the next billion population of the world. I am also a big foodie and am always up for a good meal!

2. What class are you enjoying the most so far and why?

I am enjoying “Research Methods” by Adrianna and Hirumi the most so far. The class is very insightful and thought-provoking, making you question the notions of design thinking. I thoroughly enjoy the discussions we have with both Adriana and Hirumi Even though it's only a seven-week course! The research tools we learn are being applied in almost all our other classes, hence, making the learnings practical.

3. What is your favorite part of NYC since moving here?

I love the New York skyline, especially during the golden hour. Whether you see it from the Brooklyn or Jersey side, there is always a sense of awe attached with a very calming feeling.

4. Current favorite album?

'Hardly a day, hardly a night' by Cubicolor and 'The slow rush' by Tame Impala

1. Tell us about yourself

Hello, my name is Hyun! I have a breadth of knowledge in both visual and motion design. I have worked as a motion & graphic design intern, freelancer, and UX generalist at a health care startup. I always hope to grow as an empathetic UX designer who can understand others' feelings and thoughts in a situation where they need a product, while also considering the business goals.

In my free time, I love playing table tennis, visiting art galleries, and traveling to experience various foods and cultures.

2. What class are you enjoying the most so far and why?

So far, I am enjoying my “Strategic Innovation in Product & Service Design” class the most. It gives me the chance to define challenges with the organizations sponsoring our projects and finally design and deploy solutions based on the target audience's needs.

This class really makes me happy that I decided to study at SVA. Collaborating on projects together gives everyone the opportunity to learn from each other and helps establish a solid knowledge foundation that lets us grow as UX designers. I am sure the projects we work on in this class will help me develop my career in the future!

3. What is your favorite part of NYC since moving here?

My favorite part of NYC is that there are so many opportunities to meet various people, since it's one of the biggest cities! The many restaurants and coffee shops in the city make it easy for me to meet new people. I think this especially gives me diverse opportunities I would not have had otherwise.

4. Current favorite album?

I enjoy listening to various genres of music, but if I had to choose my favorite album, it would be Ed Sheeran's "Divide". In particular, the songs "Shape of You" and "Perfect" on the album have been on my favorites playlist for years. I listen to them often while out walking, because they remind me of the past and make me emotional.

2. What class are you enjoying the most so far and why?

I enjoyed SIPSD class the most so far. It’s my first time doing a long-term team project, everything is fresh to me. Being in Citi’s team, our goal is to deliver a fintech product for Black and Latinx community. It’s a brand new experience for me because I’m not familiar with finance field, and at the same time, I’m excited to collaborate with my team members to work on a project together!

3. What is your favorite part of NYC since moving here?

The food! I’ve live in New York City for 3 years, but still feel fresh about the diverse food here. I love Asian food and I’m excited to explore more restaurants in NYC!

4. Current favorite album?

'Justice' — by Justin Bieber
