Summer is always “my time” to catch up on activities I can’t seem to fit into my September-May schedule. There is something about the sun and warm nights that help me complete unfinished projects. Here at the MFA Interaction Design department, we use these extra hours of sunlight to host the Summer Intensive in Interaction Design.
Starting July 11, professionals local to NYC and from as far away as Sri Lanka begin their exploration of interaction design. Their energy and enthusiasm engulf the studio. They may start off as strangers, but they quickly form close-knit groups to tackle the projects given to them by faculty. Jodi Leo, as part of Research Methods, may have them interviewing weary travelers at JFK airport. As part of Irene Pereyra’s Practice of Interaction Design course, students may be working on wireframes, in the studio, with copious amounts of Post-Its! Fridays are reserved for NYC design studio tours. During these informal tours, students get the chance to discuss current projects and pick the brains of local interaction design professionals.
By the end of five weeks, it’s time to celebrate! Students display portfolio-worthy work to the SVA community while relaxing with beverages and snacks.
