Now more than ever design is an instrument for deeper and more authentic human connection. Products, services and business models encourage and produce powerful interactions and human experiences. This workshop will explore how to design and build impactful and participatory relationships and community between users through your product, service, and/or interaction designs.

This workshop takes a deeper look at how we can design products that foster powerful sense of community and is led by Community Canvas co-founder and systems-change designer (formerly NYTimes and Google) Sascha Mombartz and Good Work Work Institute co-founder, Transition Design doctorate candidate, and community builder (formerly etsy.org and Accion) Erica Dorn.

Workshop Objectives

  • Understand principles of community design, building and management
  • Develop a minimal viable community identity, experience, and structure around your design work
  • Learn and prototype how to sustain product and service-centered communities
