Bio

Barbara de Wilde is currently an Executive Creative Director within the Product and Design group at The New York Times. As a maker and a mentor, she oversees a small group of product designers in the Storytelling mission within News Design. The Storytelling team focuses on innovative reading experiences and depth of engagement with Times journalism.

From 2013-2017, Barbara led product design for NYT Cooking, a popular cross-platform recipe app that brings delight, inspiration and utility to a large and devoted cohort of cooks. In the process of building the product and growing the user base, they won a James Beard Award for Storytelling, 2 Webby Awards, and an NYT Publishers Award.

Barbara’s work today is informed by her previous experience as a graphic designer reimagining book cover design at Knopf and leading the redesign of publications at Martha Stewart Omnimedia and Hearst. Whether designing a digital product or a piece of music packaging, Barbara cares deeply about craft: typography, graphic design, art direction and interaction design.
