DrinkMe

DrinkMe is a smart base for a water bottle, designed to increase water intake and keep people well hydrated.

From a simple observation that people may fill a bottle of water (1000ml) in the morning, but by the end of the day time the bottle would still be half full (implying a consumption of just 500 ml of water in ~9hrs), this product was designed to answer the question, “How can a water bottle, with water that sits unconsumed for hours, next to a person, at their desk, trigger an interaction that motivates him/her to take a sip?”

Using Arduino, various sensors & basic programming, this product brings to life an interaction between a water bottle and the user.  Fun, momentary, and playful as a reminder, it is also tangible as a part of the bottle and the desk. In the current proof-of-concept, DrinkME uses a FSR sensor to monitor the variation in the weight of the bottle to infer the time since when the user last consumed water. Over a period of time, the transparent ring on the smart base slowly lights up creating a beautiful play of light on the table surface. The pattern appears in different colors transitioning from green to yellow to orange and finally to red in 45 minutes. At the 50th minute the red light starts blinking and continues to blink faster till the user takes a sip. The lights aren’t just a reminder for the person using DrinkME, but is also a way for people around to stop by and engage in a short conversational reminder to drink water.”
