How can emerging technologies transform climate data into a personal and interactive experience?
GlacialPace is an immersive data experience that depicts a glacier’s journey over the past 30 years from a first-person perspective. Viewers can explore the shifting Arctic landscape from 1985 to 2015, experiencing the impacts of climate change through a virtual environment.
Over time, we plan to expand this prototype into a more interactive experience. Narrative will supplement visualizations with reports from scientists and oral histories from those who have experienced change firsthand.
Weather patterns will also reflect current Alaskan conditions, using data pulled from a public weather API, though this feature has been temporarily removed as it requires too much processing capacity while streaming live.
