Make Your Money Talk is a public engagement platform for New York City’s participatory budgeting process. Participatory Budgeting has dramatically increased citizen engagement with local governments around the world, but has yet to take full advantage of social technology to involve citizens in budgeting initiatives. Make Your Money Talk uses physical spaces, mobile, and web technology to provide a relevant framework to exchange ideas, discover community initiatives, and engage with the political decision-making process.
In addition to a redesigned web platform that gives access to more detailed information about specific projects and community events, Make Your Money Talk integrates a simple SMS voting system and a series of public leader boards that motivate participation around specific initiatives.
