Our cultural values and understanding of history are shaped by the way our history is told. While we are often taught history as if it was written from an objective perspective, history is just like any other story that is affected by whose voices are included and whose are not.
Pieces of History is a dynamic puzzle that puts people in charge of building their own historical narrative. As people select and fit together puzzle pieces to make up the shape, each piece reveals different historical content. The perspectives displayed in the content and overall historical narrative are dependent on what pieces are chosen. In this iteration, people piece together the history of Manhattan with puzzle pieces representing the perspectives of both the Native Lenape people and the Settlers.
