Bridging the Distance

Bridging the gap of physical distance, this project reimagines how technology can hold space for the subtle, emotional nuances of a long-distance relationship. It moves beyond simple video calls to create tangible, interactive moments that help partners feel truly present in each other's daily lives.
Bridging the Distance explores how we stay emotionally close when we are physically apart. Long-distance relationships often rely on screens that can feel a bit flat, and conversations can feel repetitive. So I wanted to see how I could make that connection feel more tangible and grounded in our daily lives.

My design process was deeply rooted in my background in ceramics and theater—fields that are all about texture, presence, and storytelling. I used tools like Raspberry Pi, physical computing and app building software to build these prototypes, moving through several rounds of testing and coding to turn a digital signal into a physical moment. The goal was to create objects that don't just transmit data, but actually carry a sense of a partner's presence into the room with you.
