TechFellows

An interactive instruction guide that teaches older adults how to use their smartphone.

Older adults make up a large share of people who are digitally unprepared. As life moves rapidly online and older adults become more willing to adopt technology, there is an opportunity to bridge this digital divide by improving their tech literacy.

TechFellows is an interactive learning tool that helps older adults build an accurate mental model to use their smartphones. A series of educational materials and practice exercises enables older adults to acquire the knowledge they may not have access to.

TechFellows includes a physical guide and smart cards so older adults can quickly start learning on the interactive tablet app. The app teaches the basics of using a touchscreen, phone functions, and apps. It also features a voice companion that narrates the screen out loud. TechFellows is based on a multimodal, robust pedagogy, that empowers older adults to feel confident using their smartphones.
