Requirements For Applicants and the Application

As a program intended to investigate the boundaries of interaction design across disciplines, we are interested in candidates who have a diverse set of interests.

Prospective students need not be technically advanced or proficient in design methods already, but do need to be curious and imaginative, experimenting with designing interactions on their own. Ideal students are human-centered practitioners with cross-disciplinary backgrounds and interests. They are equal parts abstract thinker and craftsperson with at least two to five years of professional experience.

What are the parts of the application?

The following are all necessary for an application to be considered complete:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Official college or university transcripts
  • Completed online application
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Statement of purpose (250-500 words)
  • Résumé and portfolio
  • Proof of English proficiency (for applicants whose primary language is not English); Nonimmigrant alien applicants are required to submit documentation of sufficient financial resources to attend SVA. You can learn more about tuition and financial aid here.
